Last Saturday, Tiffany and I participated in the Carrera De Los Muertos 5k run for the second time. The event, held at historic Olvera Street in Los Angeles, is a wonderful celebration of life and of those who have passed on. The plaza was adorned by various altars, paying homage to departed loved ones, including a community altar in which everyone was invited to share a loving message to deceased family or friends. El Catrin and La Catrina, iconic satirical figures of Dia De Los Muertos, walked on stilts through the throngs of runners spilling from the plaza onto the streets, Aztec ceremonial dancers performed and mariachi brought in a bright and festive element to the proceedings. A great day to celebrate lives that have passed and life itself.
